Asset Digital remains a leading force in DVD as they keep a close eye on the emergence of high-definition DVD technology .The battle between Sony's "Blue Ray" format and the Toshiba lead "DVD HD" format continues to evolve. Sony recently announced that Blue Ray will be utilizing the MPEG-2 codec that will drastically reduce the 50 gigabyte storage capabilites that Blue Ray was touting originally. This now gives DVD HD an edge since it has a capacity of 30 gigabytes utilizing the much more efficient VC-1 codec from Microsoft. Asset is continuing to monitor this situation, and hopes to be offering high definition DVD services within the first half of 2006. Stay tuned! Details

First Blu-Ray DVD Authored 11.21.05
Sony Pictures announces the first full-length film to be authored and encoded on the high definition Blue-Ray DVD, "Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle". The disk , encoded with the MPEG-2 format holds the film and the standard compliment of extras. Release date is expected for Q1 of 2006.

Spirit: The Seventh Fire (Spirit LLC) Spirit: The Seventh Fire, created by Peter Buffett, is a traveling theatrical show that has dazzled audiences across the country. When Peter decided to produce a DVD version of his show, he chose Asset Digital. This intricate and stylish DVD presents the show with remastered audio in Dolby Digital and DTS, has stunning motion menus, and contains several bonus features including interviews with the creator and talent, outtakes, photo gallery, featurettes on the filmed projections used during the show, and many other entertaining features. Asset also handled the packaging and replication duties for this unique title.

Platinum Blonde

Loving Couples(Project X Distribution) An intriguing dramatic feature that echoes the work of Ingmar Bergman, Loving Couples tells the story of three woman who look back on their lives and their past relationships. The DVD contains an award-winning short film shot by the director, a photo gallery featuring rare still images from the film, an a 12-page insert containing excerpts from various literature that further discusses the film.

Canadian Curling Experience 2005 (CBC Sports)
Curling has quickly become a popular spectator sport in Canada, and nothing is more evident of that than the response to the 2005 men's and women's Canadian Curling Championships. To celebrate, Asset Digital helped produce a double-disc DVD for CBC Sports that features behind the scenes and highlights from the 2005 Scott Tournament of Hearts and the 2005 Tim Horton's Brier. In addition, the two-disc set boasts an addition feature that highlights the best shots in the history of the two tournaments.

Shake Hands

Shake Hands with the Devil (Microfilms) A compelling documentary detailing Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire's return to Rwanda, ten years after leading an UN peacekeeping mission while one of the worst genocides in history ravaged the country. This strikingly designed DVD is filled with bonus material including both Director's and Critical Appreciation commentary, by Peter Raymont and Geoff Pevere, respectively. A 52 minute French version of the film, photo gallery (with commentary by Maclean's chief photographer, Peter Bregg), interview with Peter Raymont, and excerpt book reading by General Dallaire round out this impressive collection.
